You’ll quickly notice that many of the specific responsibilities of serving as a DECA advisor support the work you are already doing as a classroom teacher. Take a few moments to review the Advisor Roles + Responsibilities on pages 14-15 in the “This Is How We Do DECA” ultimate advisor guidebook. These include: Leader, Promoter, Fundraiser, Connector, Competitor, Travel Agent and Professional.

One of the best methods to introduce competitive events in the classroom is by having members experience a DECA role-play event before knowing exactly what it is. Using competitive events promotes student learning and exposes students to DECA – as a teaching tool.

Fall leadership conferences and events are excellent opportunities for members to experience DECA beyond your local chapter and rally excitement for upcoming events. There may be a variety of fall leadership conferences and events within your association in addition to fall regional conferences that bring together members from multiple chartered associations.
