With three California campuses located in the heart of the fashion and entertainment industries, FIDM/Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising is a leading, WASC and NASAD-accredited college offering specialized Associate of Arts and Bachelors degrees. FIDM has been educating students with creative and leadership skills for the global industries of fashion, visual arts, interior design, and entertainment since 1969.

FIDM Entrepreneur of Tomorrow Challenge

Entrepreneur of Tomorrow Challenge, where students create an entrepreneurial proposal for a new product idea for a specific market segment. Participants can pitch a new clothing, beauty, home, health, food or entertainment concept in a video presentation describing the target market, product offering, marketing launch strategy and more. Winning teams are recognized on stage at DECA’s International Career Development Conference. FIDM awards the overall winning team with a travel stipend to attend DECA’s International Career Development Conference.


DECA/FIDM Scholarship

DECA students are eligible to receive a $1,000 scholarship to attend FIDM. Students who are DECA State Officers at the time of their acceptance to FIDM are eligible to receive an additional $1,500 scholarship. DECA students who are First Place winners in state competitions in the Apparel and Accessories Marketing and Fashion Merchandising Promotion Plan categories are eligible to receive an additional $3,000. Renewable for up to 4 years with 3.0 GPA at FIDM and consecutive attendance.

National Scholarship Competition

  • Open to all high school seniors, graduates, and college transfer students, FIDM’s National Scholarship Competition awards creative thinkers who demonstrate the potential to be creative leaders with 6 full one-year National Scholarships, valued up to $36,000 each and 6 partial scholarships in the amount of $10,000 each.

ICDC Competition: Integrated Marketing Campaign-Product

FIDM challenges DECA members to develop and present a campaign that is related to any hard/soft line retail products including e-commerce at the International Career Development Conference (ICDC) each year. Examples include retail products, apparel & accessories items, etc. Winners are selected and honored on stage during the Grand Awards Session at the ICDC.

FIDM is happy to provide online resources for DECA’s educators. All of our Activities, Games That Teach, and Virtual Classroom and Workshop Presentations are available at

Each activity consists of an objective, project guidelines, preparatory and follow-up exercises and suggested materials. Currently, an excellent lesson plan activity for students to do remotely is “Marketing a Brand through Social Media.”

Games That Teach are designed to supplement lesson plans with fun, online-compatible, fact-based quizzes and crossword puzzles, on the industries of fashion, creative business, visual arts, interior design, and entertainment.

FIDM also offers presentations as a free service to DECA’s educators and their students on curriculum-related topics that utilize FIDM’s expertise. Use our online form to schedule an official FIDM Representative to visit, virtual or in-person, your high school or college.
