To address the needs of very diverse teaching assignments, DECA has
developed a smorgasbord of competitive events. Competitive events are
tied to the knowledge and skills in specific careers and taught in various
courses. Very few schools participate in all competitive events, nor should
you try.
The best teachers select those competitive events and activities that fit
their current courses. This site is designed to help you select those competitive
events that are best suited to the specific content you are teaching. These are suggestions for
using competitive events in your classroom. They are not intended to restrict you or your students
to certain competitive events. Any DECA member can enter any competitive event.
The site can be searched by career clusters or pathways or by individual courses.
If you select the cluster (Hospitality & Tourism, Finance, Administration
& Management, or Marketing Sales & Service) a chart of the courses arranged by
grade level for each pathway will appear. The courses are grouped by Career Clusters and pathways
commonly used by many states.
Select a Career Cluster and view courses in sequence from the 9th through the 12th grade.
If you select an individual course title you will be linked to the course
description and the competitive events associated with that course.
