College Ready

It’s best to start preparing for college as early as you can. You should be looking at the types of classes you are taking beginning in your sophomore year. Try to get into a college prep track and make sure you keep your grades up. The better you do, the better chance you have of earning a scholarship.

Colleges look at more than just coursework. Stay involved in DECA, run for office and compete at the local, state and international levels. Join clubs or get involved in community service. If you plan to work during high school, try to get a job related to your intended career field. This work experience will help you explore the field to see if it’s what you want to do for a lifelong career. These are all ways you can stand out in the application process.

You’re going to want to be sure to take the PSAT, SAT or ACT tests as well. Doing well on these tests generally earns you money toward college.
