John's Journal

May:

Thank you DECA members, advisors, and chaperones. I am humbled and honored to represent you nationally. This year is going to be one full of excitement, enjoyment, and hard work. I look forward to your ideas (both positive and negative) throughout the year. We are off to a great start. Team 64 is excited and energized to lead DECA forward. Working closely together, and sharing our ideas this past month has put a jump–start on DECA activities and events.

I will be sending letters and initiating communication within the next couple of weeks, and I look forward to your opinions. I thank you all for your hard work, and support. As DECA members, we will lead this country into the future. If you have any questions of concerns please contact me at decavpjohn@gmail.com.

June:

DECA members and advisors, thank you for the warm welcome to office. I have had the honor of communicating with most of you. This past month has been full of exciting and busy times. As we are all planning programs of work, and preparing for state conferences, communication is going to be key.

My first order of business is to ask for your support. Oregon DECA is in jeopardy of losing their funding for DECA and other CTSO organizations. It is imperative that we act quickly as a national organization. If Oregon's funding is cut, this disease will spread into other states. The second and third effects could be detrimental to all. I encourage you all to join the Facebook group to find out how you could help.

Next, I ask you to communicate with me. Team 64 and I will soon be preparing the program of work. Your input and suggestions is what will make this coming year so successful. If you have not already, I ask that you send me an e-mail at decavpjohn@gmail.com introducing yourself and some ideas that you may have. I have sent an introductory letter to your advisors introducing myself, and the aspirations that I have for the coming term. I look forward to hearing from all of you soon. If you have any questions please contact me on Facebook, skype, by e-mail, or by phone. Thank you for all your hard work. It is apparent that we are off to a great start. Talk to you soon!

John Stiles

July:

Hello Everyone,

The year is beginning to take shape. Thank you all for your help and assistance in making sure that the funding for Oregon DECA is restored. The history and legacy of the coming term is about to be written, as Team 64 and I will be writing the program of work in the next couple of days. Thank you for your helpful suggestions and feedback on some of the ideas that we have. I am continuously looking for new networking and communication sources. Our ability to relate to one another and express our ideas is going to be very important throughout the coming year.

I have set up meetings with congressional representatives and company CEO's to discuss the benefits of DECA and their support of the organization and the youth. As we are well under way to another successful year, I remind you that I want to hear your ideas and suggestions (both positive and negative) to ensure that I am meeting and addressing the wants and needs of your state and local chapters. I wish you all the best of luck and I look forward to meeting some of you at WROTC and SOLT. See Ya!

John

August:

DECA Members and Advisors,

We are off to a fantastic start. I have heard of many good plans and programs of work that will make this year the best yet. I enjoyed meeting many of you at the SOLT and WROTC conferences this past month. I have seen nothing put top of the line effort and enthusiasm from all of you. I am now confident that the states of the Western Region are in good hands. As we begin a new year, some things are going to be very important. First, Facebook, Twitter, and Skype are going to become great friends of DECA. We hope to increase networking and communication with members, advisors, and staff to provide the best direction for DECA in the coming year. The first regional Skype Conference Call will be held @ 12:00pm mountain time on August 15, 2009. I encourage you all to call in and join the conversation. Please bring your ideas, suggestions, and open minds, as these will help the meeting run more efficiently. All in all, the state of the region is strong, and enduring. Keep up the good work. I look forward to hearing from you soon!

Sincerely,

John Stiles

January:

Hello Western Region DECA. I hope that you all enjoyed the holiday season with your friends and family!

As we wave goodbye to a productive 2009, we say hello to a more prosperous 2010. The journeys, adventures, and conferences that await are perhaps the most exciting yet. Your state conference and the well-known ICDC, are ways for you to grow as a leader, business professional and DECA member.

I encourage you all to participate as much as possible in the coming months and to tweet or post your most memorable experiences.
