This institute is designed especially for new DECA advisors with up to three years of experience and teachers of business, marketing, finance, hospitality courses without DECA chapters.
This institute will provide participants with ideas and strategies to develop strong DECA chapters in addition to developing a strong network of colleagues. Institute participants will receive high-quality instruction that focuses on using DECA for

Session ContentDECA’s Role in Education
Get an overview of DECA and learn how DECA supports key educational initiatives including National Curriculum Standards, 21st Century Skills, Common Core State Standards and Common Career Technical Core.
DECA Professional Educator
Learn how many of the specific responsibilities of serving as a DECA advisor support the work you are already doing as a classroom teacher. Receive insight on how to handle your many roles and responsibilities of classroom teacher and DECA advisor.
DECA Chapter Development
Develop a systematic approach to managing a DECA chapter and learn how to integrate DECA into your classroom instruction to make learning vibrant and relevant. Learn how to engage your students in a small learning community by providing opportunities for leadership, problem solving, teamwork, career preparation and more. Tools for designing a vibrant chapter with emphasis on leadership roles and responsibilities, program of work, advisory committees, business partnerships, and integrating rigor in projects and activities will be discussed.
DECA’s Comprehensive Learning Program; Project-based Learning
Learn how to utilize DECA’s Comprehensive Learning Program to align DECA with your curriculum and reinforce specific career and academic standards. Discover DECA’s exciting classroom activities that connect your instruction to college and careers and employ project-based learning.
DECA’s Competitive Events
Get an overview of DECA’s Competitive Events Program and learn how to use this incredible tool in your classroom to promote student achievement, motivate your students and provide opportunities for recognition. Learn strategies on how to use DECA’s Competitive Events Program to complement your daily instruction while providing higher-order thinking activities for your students.
Gaining Support with Your DECA Chapter
DECA activities can extend beyond the classroom to apply learning by connecting to business and the community. Learn how to develop strategies to encourage student members to become community oriented, professionally responsible and experienced leaders by working with business and community groups.
$400 Registration Fee includes three nights lodging with two per room*, training materials, eight meals and transportation to/from the airport and institute sessions. Single rooms are available for an additional $225 upgrade charge.
*Participants are responsible for securing roommates. When possible, DECA will assist in connecting registrants who wish to share a room. When one person per room, the single rate applies.
Institute sessions will be conducted on the Johnson & Wales University campus with accommodations at a nearby hotel. Complimentary transportation provided from hotel to Johnson & Wales University campus.
