Brennan's March Blog

2011-03-09

From February 24th to the 26th, I went to Albuquerque for the New Mexico DECA State Conference. I was so excited to finally see Mr. Faulkner, Miss Manus, Cameron, Tyler, Nicki, and Rachel again. We really clicked at WROTC over summer and I was really was looking forward to this trip. Everything at this conference was amazing, thanks to the NM State Advisor, Miss Phipps. The hospitality they showed me was great and everything ran smoothly. Plus, when you have dedicated members like New Mexico does, the overall excitement of the conference is so much higher. We also had Joe Chavez as our keynote speaker. Since he resides in Colorado, I have heard him multiple times before. He is so funny and he speaks the truth, so it is a treat every time I get the chance to hear him. I really enjoyed the city of Albuquerque and I look forward to visiting again in the future. Thanks again to New Mexico for inviting me, it was the best trip.

After I got back from New Mexico, I went straight to the Colorado State Conference. This was my fourth straight year at this conference and I was thrilled because it is my home state. Plus, we stayed at the Broadmoor, a 5 Diamond Resort. If you ever have the chance to stay there, do it. It is one of the nicest hotels in the world and celebrities go there constantly. The property is beautiful and the staff treats you like a V.I.P. at all times. Aside from the hotel, I was so happy to see all my friends that I have made over the years - the members, state officers, and advisors that have helped me along my journey. This conference has to be one of my favorites every year. It is filled with 3,000 excited DECA members from all over the state. This year we had Tommy Spaulding as our keynote speaker. He was a Colorado DECA member back in the day and was even a national winner at ICDC. Currently, he travels around giving speeches and hosting leadership camps, and he has a book that was New York’s number one bestseller. Mr. Spaulding has such a fantastic message and is, by far, one of the most genuine guys I have ever met. If you are looking for a great speaker who was a DECA member, choose Tommy Spaulding. Thank you Colorado DECA for such a terrific conference, I will never forget it.

Currently, I am traveling to Portland, Oregon for the Oregon State Conference. Since I have yet to actually get there, I will let you know how it went in next month’s blog. I am so excited to work with them again, they have one of the best state officer teams and I heard their state conference is amazing.
As for my non-DECA life, I finally made a college decision. I will be attending the University of Missouri this fall in Columbia. Every one keeps telling me that I was meant to go there. My dad went there; I was born there; and I have always been a Tiger fan, so I feel it is a very good choice for me. A couple weeks ago, I went up to Northern Colorado University in Greeley for a concert with my friends. We went to see Sam Adams and Shwayze. Shwayze was pretty good, but it was cooler that we met Cisco from the group after. I am not sure if any of you know Sam Adams, but he is a brand new rapper from Boston. It is pretty funny since I normally only listen to Country Music, but Sam Adams is really good. He is blowing up really fast, so I would encourage you to give him a shot if you have yet to hear his music. I am also really excited to have my friends come home for the next few weeks. They are all coming back from college for Spring Break, so it will be awesome to finally see them again. I think that is all I have for now, but thank you so much for reading. Hope to see you at the International Career Development Conference in Orlando, Florida this April!

I forgot to add one thing: make sure you if you guys go to ICDC, take part in the DECA 5k! Please make sure to join my team as well! It is a competition between the National Officers on who can get the most teammates and the most donations. You should join my team because I am actually running the race along side my teammates in preparation for my races over summer like the Tough Mudder. Plus, I am dressing like a full size AVATAR! I will paint my whole body blue and look exactly like the characters you see in the movie! Who wouldn’t want to be lead by an Avatar? I think no one. Aside from the competition, it is very important that you join the race because all the money is going to benefit MDA and DECA scholarships. Even if you don’t want to run or walk, you can still donate money. Thanks ahead of time for all the people that donate to MDA.

Remember that if you guys ever need anything, email me at decabrennan@gmail.com or add me on Facebook (Search Brennan Boehne). Thanks for reading and I will see you soon!

Yours truly,
Brennan
