Everyone has his or her own definition of success. Originally my definition matched most: If you make a lot of money, then you are successful. I am not sure when or where I decided that was the true definition, but I lived like that for most of my life.
Last year, I found a quote that completely changed my outlook on life as well as my definition of success. I used it as my Senior Quote in the yearbook:
“Success is not the key to happiness. Happiness is the key to success. If you love what you are doing, you will be successful.” – Herman Cain
This took my intended career choice of five years, to something completely new. No longer was making the most cash my main concern, but instead my concern became what was best for my family, friends and me.
What I want you to take away from this article is to make sure that you choose your career because it makes you happy. Do not choose it because of a high paycheck or even social status; do it because it is best for you and your family. Since you only have one life to live, it is important that you make the best of it.
