Nate's September Blog

2010-09-17
August was relatively a quiet month for me. I started it off with having college orientation up at Johnson & Wales University Providence. It was really amazing to live and experience Providence with students who were in a similar situation (freshmen) to me. I know that I made the right choice to attend JWU.

Throughout August, I have gotten to meet and converse with many of the DECA officers from all over the country. Facebook has really opened my ability to connect and communicate with so many more people than I have in the past. Social media is definitely the way of the future for how people will be able to stay in touch. It has been such a pleasure to get to know these members and officers. Getting to help them has probably been my favorite part of being NARVP thus far. I know that these members and officers will continue to make an already great DECA year even better. I am very excited!

Other than that, I have been preparing to start college in September. It is a very exciting yet scary time in my life. Getting ready to leave my family, friends, and way of life behind is very scary, but I know it is a part of what I have to do. On the other hand, I am very excited about living in a new place and meeting so many people. DECA has taught me already how to do this through various conferences and competitions. But as I pack up and have to decide what I take and not take, I remember everything I have learned from my experiences at home. These lessons will help me get though and enjoy the next few years and beyond. Touching on the past has really prepared me to embrace for the future. It has made me focus on what I have to do to excel and prepare for future careers and endeavors. It reminds me about what to do and not to do. The situations we have been through really do help us learn and grow as a person. Touch on them and I know you will be able to see the silver lining and meaning in each.

As for now, I will be moving to Rhode Island on September 5th. I cannot wait to start class and start expanding my network on the college level. I also can’t wait for the numerous opportunities Providence and JWU will offer for me. With so many new clubs, frats, and student activities, I know it will be an exciting month to start a new year. I have the chance to start over in a new place and begin planning the rest of my collegiate experience. One thing I cannot wait for is participating in Collegiate DECA. I know that it will help me finish the lessons high school DECA has taught me and strengthen my abilities as a national officer.

I guess this is all I have for now. Wish me luck as I begin my year. I hope all is well with everyone. I look forward to hearing from you soon. Feel free to contact me anytime at decanate@gmail.com or find me on Facebook!

Stay safe, have fun and be well.
