Kurtis' September Blog

Hey everyone,
Wow, I don’t know how to describe this past month. All I can say is thank you again to everyone who helped me become the president for this year! I have had so many great experiences so far, I can’t wait to really start traveling and getting to know more of you! Right now I am in the Denver airport on my birthday headed home from Las Vegas and the MDA Telethon.
The biggest thing I did this month was to attend the MDA Telethon and was given the honor to present MDA with a $425,000 on behalf of DECA! It was fantastic to be able to meet so many amazing people that are so dedicated to the MDA, including Mr. Luke Christie! He is the Youth Chairman of the MDA and now a good friend of mine. Be sure to check out the video of us on my Facebook at facebook.com/kurtis.conkel. I was very proud to be giving the largest check presented by a Youth Sponsor, but I think we can do better! I challenge each and every chapter to participate in at least one fundraiser for the MDA this year. There are many different and very easy ways to give. Go to mda.org under the “How to Help” page and they have multiple National Fundraisers that you can very easily participate in! Again, great job raising money last year! Let’s shoot for even more this year!
Aside from the Telethon, I have been working with the Collegiate DECA President, Josh Shankle, and our teams to set up “Thumb Wars” - a status-liking challenge on Facebook between the High School and Collegiate Division National Officers. Be sure to check out the DECA Inc. and Collegiate DECA Facebook pages for more information!
Thanks for reading everyone. Have a good one and be sure to let me or any of my team know if we can help you throughout this year! Hope to see you all soon!
