Paige's July Blog

2010-07-30
I am practically out of breath this month of June as been so busy! My school was one of those weird ones where I didn’t get to graduate until the second week of June, which was pretty unbearable considering many of us seniors had wanted to be done with school since the beginning of January. So, I graduated on Friday, June 11th at the Target Center in Minneapolis Minnesota. It’s where the basketball team the Minnesota Timberwolves play and it’s about a half hour away from my house. I had most of my family there and it was a pretty spectacular event. Then the Sunday after graduation I had my Grad Party, it was a really fun event with all my family there (even the ones from Pennsylvania) and we decided to serve my favorite food which is sushi! Yumm ☺

The Monday following my party I started my nanny job for the summer. I watch two boys who are five and seven, three days a week, from 8am-5pm, and they are definitely a lot to handle. I try and keep them busy by doing activities like going to the beach, water parks, the zoo and museum, which is also pretty fun for me. During the year I play on a traveling soccer team, so on the days that I am not babysitting, I have games throughout the state of MN. I am really going to miss the sport when I go off to the University Of Minnesota at Duluth in the fall, but, hopefully, I can get involved in an intramural league.

Finally, on the weekends I work at a golf course as a banquet waitress for wedding receptions and golf tournaments. I LOVE this job. When I waitress wedding receptions, I feel like I have a responsibility to make the even go as smoothly as possible because this is going to be a day that two people will never forget. I get to interact with guests, and there is normally a DJ, so I get to listen to music all night long. The shifts are definitely exhausting since the receptions normally go into the wee hours of the morning, but it is completely worth it.

And, when I get some free time, I have been working on preparing myself for Officer Training at the beginning of July. All of the National DECA Officers have training at DECA headquarters in Reston, Virginia, and then after that we all head off to the State Officer Leadership Training in Washington, DC! I am so excited to be able to be with my fellow officers since I haven’t seen them since we went our separate ways after ICDC; and being able to meet with many state officers during our time in Washington DC is going to be amazing! I hope every one is enjoying their summer as much as I am, I hope to talk to you soon.
