" And when it rains on your parade, look up rather than down. Without the rain, there would be no rainbow." – Jerry Chin.
As school is approaching we start to wonder where all of the fun summer days have gone - the days lying around at the beach, the times splashing in the pool, the evenings laughing around a camp fire, and nights gazing at the stars. When summer starts at the beginning of June, all of us have goals and dreams for the summer, great and amazing things that we want to achieve. Summer to us is like a big long parade, with floats and candy and glitter and music. Sometimes during the summer you get to do new exciting things and you get memories that you can cherish, which is like the float in the parade. We live our summers carefree, staying up late telling ghost stories and sleeping in every morning - just late enough to catch the last of the morning cartoons.
Just like the rain puts an end to a parade, school puts an end to our summers. We have to switch our brains back into learning mode, and try to convince our teachers that all of the things we memorized last year haven’t disappeared from our minds. This year I want to try and challenge you to do something. I want to challenge you to look up at school as a good thing instead of down at school as being a bad thing. Yes, school puts an end to our summers, but it also brings new and cool opportunities! Opportunities to try new sports, to get involved in new clubs, to run for that new leadership position, or to just learn some fun new facts that you can take to college with you one day. School gives you an opportunity to branch out and to expand on all of the things you have interest in - from business, to cooking, to biology, to engineering, there is something for everyone. A big thing that school gives you is the chance to meet new people and to expand your group of friends. Take this next year to dance in the rain, because without the rain that is considered school, there wouldn’t be the fun RAINBOWS and experiences that it has to offer.
Good Luck!
