Nate's July Blog

June has been a very busy month for me - this year busier than most. On June 11th, I took my final steps as a student at Northampton High School and graduated! It was a very bittersweet moment as I said goodbye to my friends, fellow students, and teachers. I know they will always be there. But as one door closes, another opens. As I said goodbye, I looked forward to an exciting summer that proceeds ahead of me.
Of course, I have been working a lot lately as my job at Kmart. After two years, I finally received a raise which made my summer start off on a good note. After about a week of summer, I went off to be a counselor at a diabetes camp for kids. There I spent a week being a counselor for ten 13-year old boys. And let me tell you, it was a rollercoaster of a week. My boys were hyper, off the wall and crazy, but totally funny to watch. But as a previous camper and counselor, I knew how to take control of any situation that got out of hand. This was actually my 10th year at this camp and I was very excited to be one of a handful of people who have been there that long. As I spent my week with the campers, I looked back on all my ten years here and wondered about all the people who volunteered here. I wondered if they had great times like the one I was having. Volunteering for things that are important to me has always been a passion of mine. I liked giving back to the camp that has given me so many friends and memories. I think everyone who is passionate about something important should give time to that group or organization. The memories and experiences made are one in a life time! As my week ended at camp, I was sad and happy to be home.
My next big adventure is coming on the 6th of July as I get trained as a national officer. I cannot wait to finally get started being a national officer. I know that my fellow officers and I will have an exciting 10 days in Reston and Washington D.C. I hope you all are having an outstanding summer and I hope to hear from you all soon.
