Meetings that Energize, Enlighten and Excite!
2012-11-07
As you kick off DECA Month in your local chapters, keep in mind the excitement surrounding this celebration should come from your current members. As a chapter or association officer, it is your job to effectively ignite your members’ motivation. A great way to do this is by holding meaningful chapter meetings; simply stated, you need to facilitate meetings that energize, enlighten and excite!
Begin your meetings with an energizer. Try to organize individuals so that members of all experience levels are sharing their knowledge and getting to know one another. Most importantly, keep it creative and simple. As an example, consider a photo booth with DECA props. Set up your laptop at a meeting for members to use to take pictures of themselves displaying the DECA diamond, etc. Post the pictures to your chapter’s Facebook page. Just be creative!
Next you need to enlighten your members. Share your message and make sure you include new members in existing project discussions so they feel like a part of the team. While meetings should be fun, they must also have a purpose. Cover important topics and plans for the upcoming weeks at the beginning of the meeting.
Lastly, you need to excite your members. Let them know that the success of the chapter is in their hands! If they have ideas on how to make DECA Month a success, invite them to share their ideas and remind them that your chapter will provide all the support and resources they need to make it happen.
I hope you have an amazing DECA Month; after all, it is the best season of the year!
