A Farewell Message

2012-04-24

“Actor Jim Carrey once said, ‘Life opens up opportunities to you, and you either take them or you stay afraid of taking them.’ I have been given the incredible opportunity to serve as your Central Region Vice President, and I can promise I will make the most of this opportunity. You have my word I will do everything I can to serve DECA to the best of my abilities. “

That was the opening paragraph of my first blog as CRVP. It is difficult to realize that my term will only last a few more days. Serving DECA on a national stage has been the highest honor of my life. I’m extremely grateful that I’ve received this opportunity. I have worked every day to make the most of this opportunity and to serve DECA to the best of my abilities.

My focus this year has been to give back to DECA as much as I could. This focus has motivated me each day to work as hard as I could. Throughout my term, I found this statement proved to be true many times: “The more you put into DECA, the more you get out of it.” The more diligently I worked, the more opportunities DECA presented me. This, however, was no great surprise; the same thing happened during my previous four years in DECA.

It is with sadness that I bid farewell to my term as CRVP. This has, without a doubt, been the most exhilarating and rewarding experience of my life. Over the past year, serving as CRVP was a huge part of my life. When I walk off the stage at ICDC, I’m sure that I will feel like a part of my life has disappeared.

Although I only have a matter of days left in DECA, this organization will always be a part of who I am. I will always remember the friendships I’ve developed, the memories I’ve made, and the lessons I’ve learned. The skills that DECA has helped me develop will continue to impact who I am as a person. My dedication to this organization will never cease because I am incredibly grateful for its impact on my life. I will continue to stay involved in DECA and find ways to give back to the organization that has changed my life.

DECA Wishes,

Micah Melling
