Central Region Makes the Extra Effort for MDA Fundraising

2012-04-10

Serving as the lead National Officer for The Movement was one of the most exhilarating experiences of my time in office. For a full recap of the project, please go to http://www.deca.org/news/157/. I would like to thank the states and chapters in the Central Region that helped to make The Movement a success. Working with each of you was an absolute pleasure, and I greatly appreciate all of your efforts for MDA.

  • Kentucky DECA made MDA a focal point this year by joining The Movement. I sincerely thank this state association for their endeavors to help those with debilitating muscular diseases.
  • Michigan DECA joined The Movement and did a fantastic job of supporting MDA this year. In total, they raised $45,000 for MDA, which is certainly an impressive accomplishment.
  • Minnesota DECA was another great association in implementing and executing The Movement. Ten chapters joined the effort to raise $500 more for MDA than they did last year. I would like to thank the following chapters for submitting contribution reports: Chanhassen, Chaska, Coon Rapids, and Elk River.
  • Missouri DECA was outstanding with The Movement. Forty chapters joined the effort and made MDA a top priority. I would like to thank the following chapters for submitting contribution reports: Camdenton, Fredericktown, Fort Zumwalt North, Fort Zumwalt West, Blue Springs South, Blue Springs, McCluer North, Clayton, Pacific, Timberland, Nevada, Clinton, Belton, Odessa, Waynesville, Fox, Columbia-Hickman, Columbia-Rockbridge, Raymore-Peculiar, and St. Clair. These chapters raised a combined $65,660 for MDA. Additionally, they raised a combined total of $37,117 more for MDA than they did last year.
  • Nebraska DECA joined The Movement and promoted MDA within their state. This association did an excellent job of raising money for MDA at the Central Region Leadership Conference in Omaha. Nebraska DECA led the Central Region in raising over $2,500 in just two days.
  • North Dakota DECA joined The Movement and was a huge proponent of MDA. The following chapters from North Dakota joined The Movement and submitted contribution reports: Davies, Fargo North, Fargo South, Fargo West, Mandan, Minot, and Oakes. This state association also set a goal of raising $15,000 for MDA, and they reached that goal with flying colors.
  • South Dakota DECA was another participant of The Movement. This state association put in a great effort to raise both funds and awareness for MDA. South Dakota DECA certainly has a bright future in fundraising for MDA.
  • Wisconsin DECA participated in The Movement and certainly succeeded with generating revenue for MDA. This state association raised over $33,000 for MDA during the school year. Additionally, they conducted successful fundraisers at both their Fall Leadership Conference and State Career Development Conference.

Thank you to all participants. Your efforts for MDA are greatly appreciated by National DECA, Team 66, and all of those affected by muscular dystrophy. “Making a Muscle” for MDA is, without a doubt, an endeavor that can impact the lives of countless people. I am extremely proud of how my region performed with The Movement. Everyday, I am glad to serve DECA’s Central Region.

DECA Wishes,

Micah Melling
