Our Last ICDC? Nah!
2012-01-01
2012 has finally arrived! Whether you spent it with friends, family, a crowd of strangers, or just your television set, I hope that all of you had a great time ringing in the new year.
When thinking of what to write about for the first blog of the year, I was tempted to mention that it was your last chance to win that first place plaque at the International Career Development Conference… Seeing as how the Mayans have decided that we’re in for some slight changes 12 months from now… Then I thought, eh, let’s keep this light hearted. So instead I give you this:
Many people make New Years Resolutions – and Collegiate DECA members are no exception. However, ours may have differed slightly from those of the typical college student. Most of us probably resolved to dominate our competitive event at each level; from local leading all the way up to the last, ahem, the annual ICDC in April. We probably resolved to keep our grades top notch and to not allow them to slip while preparing for all of the upcoming conferences. We probably resolved to network harder than ever in the upcoming months as we pave the way toward our career goals. And we probably resolved to Aspire Higher than ever before in 2012…
Do those not sound like your resolutions? Yeah, I didn’t think so…
IT’S NOT TOO LATE! We are still in the very first week of the New Year and I’ve already added a few resolutions that I forgot about as well. Take the time now to make Collegiate DECA part of your 2012 Resolutions.
As Dakota pointed out in his blog last week, we aren’t like the typical college student. We are capable of handling so much more and are better equipped to take on everything that both college and our extracurricular activities and organizations throw our way.
We are poised, confident, intelligent, business savvy, strong and willing individuals. We eat, sleep, breathe, and LIVE excellence. I’m not bragging on all of you; I’m stating the facts. So even if you have a list of resolutions that stretches on for miles, don’t be intimidated to add a few more related to Collegiate DECA, because you know there’s no doubt that you can do it.
Take a moment to pat yourself on the back for committing to such an excellent student organization and embrace 2012 with the intentions of utilizing Collegiate DECA to the best of your ability.
And once again, Happy New Year!
Best wishes,
Paige Eldridge
Collegiate DECA President
