Make It Matter

2011-12-21

“Make it Matter with Micah Melling.” That was my campaign theme when I ran for Central Region Vice President. Since ICDC, I hadn’t thought about my theme until I used the words “make it matter” for Minnesota DECA’s “three-words” campaign. (By the way, you need to check out this campaign; it gives you the opportunity to tell your DECA story in just three words)!

The “make it matter” theme idea was born in late January of 2011, and I decided to use it shortly after its inception. However, when I first chose the theme, it didn’t have any personal meaning. It was just a catchy theme that I thought could help me win my dream position. That would certainly change, though.

My father passed away eight days before ICDC. When I arrived in Orlando and began to campaign, the “make it matter” theme came to life. It was no longer just a catchy theme that I thought could help me win. It became a motto, a directive for living. At that point in my life, I realized that I must make every second of my existence matter. My dad didn’t plan to pass away at age 52. None of us plan to pass away at a young age. Nobody plans to endure tragedies. But tragedies happen. People die young. We lose loved ones. That’s why we must “make it matter” – we never know when “our time” will be.

Will you “make it matter”?

DECA Wishes,

Micah Melling

Central Region Vice President
