DECA Shines at ACTE

2011-11-22

Nearly 3,000 educators, administrators, and students gathered in St. Louis, Missouri for the Association of Career and Technical Education National Conference last week. DECA National President Claire Coker and I had the honor of attending this event. Without a doubt, this conference was one of the most educational, rewarding, and informative I have ever attended.

Claire and I had the opportunity to network with CTE supporters from all over the nation. We had many productive conversations about the benefits of DECA and how it prepares students for successful careers. We also spoke with many leaders in business and technology and discussed our organization with them. In fact, Eric Chester, one of the conference’s keynote speakers, told us he bleeds “blue and gold.” In addition, Claire and I spoke with several teachers and administrators who are interested in starting DECA chapters. The culmination of these experiences reminded us that DECA is widely recognized as a life-changing organization; however, awareness still needs to be raised.

Claire and I were honored to represent you at the ACTE National Conference. As a National Officer Team, we are working to raise awareness for CTE and CTSOs, specifically DECA. Informing a wide range of people about our organization is vital to our future. We hope you will join us in this endeavor.

DECA Wishes,

Micah Melling
