A Humbling Anniversary

2011-09-11

Ten years ago, I was sitting in my sixth grade English class wondering if I was having a nightmare. Unfortunately, I wasn't and the unfathomable was happening. Members of the Al-Qaeda terrorist group hijacked commercial air planes at the cost of innocent American citizens. To the families of those: I sincerely admire your ability to persevere!

Freedom and protection is taken for granted by so many in America. I encourage each one of you to remember the tenth anniversary of 9/11 as a life changing event. Our minds can NOT grasp the emotional stress and physical dedication that every military and law enforcement branch of this wonderful nation went and continue to go through.

For those of you who plan to attend the Collegiate DECA Leadership Academy in New York City this fall, take a walk by ground zero. Educate yourself on this unfortunate portion of our history. We owe it to so many.

When you lose faith in our government and their willingness to compromise, think of the families of those were robbed of life. When you think you can't take any more stress from your classes, think of those who would love to have the opportunity to enchance their education, but they were robbed. We truly have so much to be thankful for.

We, as members of Collegiate DECA, have guiding principles which ready us to be academically prepared, COMMUNITY ORIENTED, professionally responsible, and experienced leaders. I encourage you to remember these tools for personal growth.

Sincerely,

Dakota Dale

Collegiate DECA Vice President 2011-2012
