Happy Labor Day Weekend everyone! I hope everyone enjoyed their first long weekend of the school year and it tides you over until the Thanksgiving holidays...as if!
Many of you are returning college students this year and a great number of you are freshman looking to make your mark at college/university. No matter which you are, I'm sure you all have heard the classic "What'd you do over the summer?" question more than a million times over the past week(s). Some of you probably went on vacation, hung out with friends, took a summer job, got an awesome internship, or something, or something, else that filled those precious months with excitement.
As for your recently elected Collegiate DECA team...well we prepared for the awesome things we want to do in the upcoming year for this great organization! We met in Reston, Virginia at DECA Headquarters in early June to participate in officer orientation. Clayton, Dakota, Em, Ron and I bonded like we never thought possible and really 'clicked' as a team. We all found commonalities in our goals for Collegiate DECA and that brought us closer as we worked on the all-important Program of Work.
One of the things we planned was to have contests on Facebook and Twitter that helped keep members' interest throughout the year while also increasing knowledge about Collegiate DECA. So far, we've held two contests, both of which had a very successful turnout. Be sure and look out for our next one coming soon! We have also added quite a few new resources to the Resource Library on the website, so be sure to check out all the new things that this website has to offer.
One of the first events we have coming up is the Collegiate DECA Leadership Academy help November 17-19 in New York City. The program was attended by around 350 people last year and we only expect more this year! The Collegiate DECA Leadership Academy allows members to choose from 5 different industry tracks (including the ALL NEW Madison Avenue Advertising track). Students interact with business, industry, and organizational leaders while also getting to compete with their peers in the Big Apple. To learn more, go to http://www.deca.org/events/12.
Team 51 is thrilled about the upcoming year and continuing to serve the members of Collegiate DECA. Have a fantastic first semester back to college and remember to stay tuned to everything Collegiate DECA has going on!
Best wishes,
Paige Eldridge
