Inspiration can be found in summer reading

2011-08-17

“Trust your passion, identify your dreams, and find the courage to share them with others, no matter how many times they call you a fool.” – Bill Strickland

This summer I found that summer reading doesn’t end after high school when I was assigned the book Make the Impossible Possible by Bill Strickland. I was a little hesitant at first because I have never read a motivational book before, but after listening to Strickland’s message, I found that it directly relates to what I strive to do in my life. What Strickland’s book showed me was that it doesn’t matter how big or ridiculous your dreams may sound, what matters is that you believe in them 100% and you are willing to do whatever it takes to see them come true.

The fall is a very busy time in DECA. Many of you will begin to choose your competitive event, Association Officers will be implementing their programs of work and the year's events will be planned. As all this is happening you will have to start thinking about what your DECA dreams are for the year or maybe your dreams outside of DECA. Once you identify those dreams, chase them!

DECA has taught me that I have the ability to achieve greatness in my life if I take advantage of the tools that are given to me. DECA gives all of its member’s great resources. We are connected with many businesses through our National Advisory Board. Maybe there is someone there you can build a relationship with that will help you see your dream come alive. You never know when you might stumble upon that important network!

Remember these last few wise words from Bill Strickland: “Look for things that inspire you, trouble you, make you feel most alive, and trust in those things to shape your future.”
